Whats Involved

What's involved, how long does it take?

Ocean Diver courses start at the beginning of October and consists of seven one-hour lectures (usually held on Sunday afternoons), and approximately 10 weeks of pool training (Sundays 6pm-7pm). After passing theory and pool practical lessons you are ready to move on to open water diving. We usually start at inland training sites such as lakes, rivers and flooded quarries in February/March, and then into the sea when the weather improves around April. The open water training dives take place on weekends, and you need to complete at least five training dives (usually two a day over three weekend days) before qualifying as an Ocean Diver. So by April, and the start of the main diving season, you should be qualified as an Ocean Diver ready to join in with the club diving trips.
